LINCOLN ASSASSINATION AND THE END OF THE CIVIL WAR

Join HistoryMiami and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Foundation (ALBF) for an all-star 150th anniversary symposium on Abraham Lincoln’s death and the return of peace to the divided American Union. Enjoy historical insights from nationally recognized scholars on the meaning—and limits—of sectional reconciliation in 1865, plus a special guest appearance by actor Stephen Lang.

The symposium will feature a keynote address by historian William C. Davis (author of the new book Crucible of Command) on Grant and Lee and the end of the Civil War.

A panel discussion, What if Lincoln Had Lived?, moderated by Harold Holzer, author of Lincoln and the Power of the Press will follow the keynote address. Distinguished panelists will include Darrel Bigham, author of On Jordan’s Banks: Emancipation and Its Aftermath…, Orville Vernon Burton, author of The Age of Lincoln, Thomas Campbell, author of Fighting Slavery in Chicago, Edna Greene Medford, author of Lincoln and Emancipation, and Frank J. Williams, author of Lincoln as Hero.

**Special guest performance by award-winning actor Stephen Lang (Gods and Generals, Avatar) portraying Gettysburg Medal of Honor winner James Jackson Purman.

One of the most interesting times in history to affect my generation and change the political world order was seeing that wall come down.  I will never forget when my professor at FSU threw out our textbook (metaphorically) in my Eastern European Politics class and were using the news and other articles to learn and discuss the changing world of Eastern Europe nations.  It was the beginning of the end of the Cold War and later 1991 break up of the Soviet Union.  Check out the following links to look back and see how the post WWII era took shape:

Getting into the Super Hero theme!

Well this is the superhero I have chosen and have modeled myself after.  It is still a work in progress and may change some.  Thanks to Marvel Comics and D.C. Comics for inspiration and all those who have lost their lives fighting evil.  The cool thing about researching this is finding out some history how comic books developed popularity -- check out the "Golden Age of Comics" around 1930s-1950s.   I always have a historical angle to everything so get used to it.  Themes to think of:  "change over time,"  pop culture, consumerism, propaganda, gender history, military history, etc.  This also is an example of a primary source.  So here goes my inspiration and the character I am editing:
